Senior Senator

One of the reasons why I love Maryland is the horse culture. I follow the horses and hounds throughout the fall and winter, but spring is all about steeplechase racing! There are traditional races every weekend from the end of March throughout April, culminating in the Maryland Hunt Cup, one of the most difficult steeplechases in the world. 

Senior Senator was a very talented thoroughbred who suffered from anxiety, but loved to run and jump. He was one of a handful of horses that have won the Maryland Hunt Cup three times. He tended to colic when he wasn't working, and this proved fatal in 2020 when Covid hit and the races were all suspended. Being such a character, he was well known and well loved by the horseracing public.
