This painting was inspired by an unforgettable experience one afternoon in early April, Assateague Island, MD. Several of us humans were on the boardwalk of the Life of the Forest trail, watching a band of wild horses chomping on the tasty marsh grasses under and around the elevated platform. One lone young stallion was quite a distance away, busily grazing across the marsh when he finally looked up and noticed the stallion of the other band. After several minutes of checking out who was there and possibly recognizing that it was the notorious stallion Delegate's Pride, aka Chip and his family - the young horse suddenly bolted, running towards the trees, away from Chip's band. It was quite a sight as he gained speed, racing along the marsh edge, splashing through the water until he disappeared into the trees.
