Spring in Maryland means steeplechase racing. From the end of March all through April, horse-racing enthusiasts gather to watch some of the finest thoroughbreds as they compete in a centuries-old tradition. The outriders at these meets follow the same customs; their scarlet coats and riding attire echo a step back in time.
